Researchers from Oak Ridge National Lab wrote a review article detailing the many advances of using in situ laser for fabrication and ablation in the TEM. Their work was published in Physics Today. 

In Situ TEM

A lab in a beam incorporates many capabilities into one device. (a) At the microscale, lasers can heat, sculpt, analyze, or excite materials. (b) At the atomic scale, single atoms can be inserted and manipulated with an electron beam. Electrodes can be used to gate, control, or measure nanodevices.
